Two Moments Of Fear, Today

1. Mom said that in last night’s panicked dream, she found herself desperately explaining to me and my sisters that she “didn’t know what the world would be like” when she brought us into it.

“And I was telling all of you, ‘Of course I’m glad I had you,'” she stressed by phone. “But I had no idea we wouldn’t have a republic anymore.”

2. An air-raid siren or slow, convincing vehicle of authority started going off on this, a not-the-usual-testing-day while I was sitting here and listening to ever more of the ever more harrowing afternoon news, and my eldest sister was suddenly calling, and I answered but didn’t hear her voice, and so hung up and called back immediately while internally and instantaneously checking off the box for Good Move If Shit Is Seconds From The Fan.
